We’re happy to welcome Andy to lead our growing U.S. market entrance practice.

While our work at Klaros has been U.S.-centric, over the nearly six years since we launched our firm, we’ve advised a number of foreign banks, payments companies, lenders, and technology providers seeking to evaluate and execute strategies for entering the U.S. market. We’ve worked with them to stand up U.S. compliance operations and address pivotal questions such as whether to partner with a U.S. bank, how to navigate the fintech-bank partnership, how to structure their products to meet state and federal regulatory requirements, how to build and navigate successful regulatory relationships, and how to strategically and compliantly build winning processes for day-to-day operations such as credit reporting and underwriting.
We’ve done good work for those clients, and we’ve enjoyed and learned from it. But until now, we haven’t considered or organized it as a practice in its own right.
Andy’s arrival changes everything.
Andy comes to us from Klarna, a leading AI-driven fintech founded in Sweden, where he spent nearly four years as Senior Counsel and interim U.S. government relations lead. At Klarna, he led product and regulatory strategy for the U.S. legal team, regularly interacted with state and federal regulators, and architected the company’s licensing strategy. He also advised on all aspects of Klarna’s payments and lending products and negotiated complex deals with critical merchants, credit bureaus, and card networks. His work spanned bank partner and true lender issues, novel methods of credit bureau reporting and credit bureau data use, and balance sheet offloading, among other things. Prior to Klarna, Andy was in the legal department at JPMorgan Chase, where he focused on credit reporting (FCRA) and other consumer finance regulations. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly seven years at Ballard Spahr representing financial institutions in disputes involving consumer finance regulations.
If you’re a foreign fintech or financial services business looking to enter the U.S., get in touch with Andy. You can find him at andrew@klarosgroup.com.
And, as always, if you’d like to chat about innovation, regulation, or related topics, we’d love to hear from you - shoot us a note at hello@klaros.com.
