Klaros’ Chief AI Officer: Welcome, Jennifer Atala!

Our first hire of Q3 is a new position for Klaros and one I’m really excited about: Jennifer Atala joins us today as Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and Senior Director to advise Klaros and Klaros clients on AI solutions, including managing risk and developing artificial intelligence (AI) governance frameworks.

Jennifer started out as a data scientist and tech innovation leader, with expertise spanning financial services, government service, and entrepreneurship – a unique and valuable set of experiences relevant to Klaros clients.

Most recently, Jennifer led Capital One's first-line Generative AI (GenAI) and AI/ML enterprise services risk team, overseeing risk strategy for complex AI initiatives, driving risk strategy and assessments for novel GenAI capabilities, and aligning executive stakeholders across risk, business, and technology functions. Before joining Capital One, she served as a senior career official in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where she co-led the Secretary’s AI Safety and Security Board (which included AI leaders like Altman, Amodei, Huang, and Pichai) to develop a first-of-its-kind AI governance framework for critical infrastructure. Prior to that, she served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, establishing DHS's first cross-sector responsible AI engagement strategy.

Earlier in her career, including as an entrepreneur and principal of Inara Strategies, LLC, Jennifer spent more than a decade designing and scaling global economic development and digital transformation initiatives across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia. She led strategic partnerships with governments, investors, and Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies – including Cisco, eBay, HP Inc., and Starbucks – to expand tech entrepreneurship, digital inclusion, and market development. This work built on her prior experience as a data scientist and financial inclusion expert for emerging markets.
