Eric Belsky

Eric Belsky is a Nonresident Fellow at the Urban Institute and an expert in consumer protection and community reinvestment regulation and supervision, housing finance and policy, and community development finance.

From 2014 to 2025, Eric served as Director of the Federal Reserve Board’s Division of Consumer and Community Affairs, where he directed the development of the Fed’s consumer and community reinvestment regulation and supervisory policy and oversaw the consumer compliance supervision and community development activities of the Reserve Banks. Prior to that, Eric worked for nearly 18 years at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, informing corporate boards, trade associations, and national nonprofit intermediaries in the housing industry on housing markets, finance, trends, and policy. He has also held positions at Price Waterhouse, Fannie Mae, and the National Association of Home Builders and taught at both Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Eric has published widely and served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Housing Research and Housing Policy Debate, as well as on nonprofit and corporate boards of directors and on advisory councils to corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Eric holds a BA, MA, and PhD from Clark University.
